
My passion project for my month-long sophomore year winter break. I was inspired by the movie Interstellar, and wanted to try and recreate the iconic Black Hole, as it had been one of my favorite visual effects in film since I first saw it.
At the beginning of this project, I had little to no knowledge on how Maya fluid systems worked, and had to learn about nParticles, Fluids, and Caching in Maya all for the first time while trying to get my desired effect. After multiple days of rendering, I am very pleased with the final result.
I was also able to achieve realistic gravitational distortion around the event horizon, through use of different shaders and material effects.
